Where was God?

Whither shall I go from thy spirit? Or whiter shall I flee from thy presence? Psalms 139:7 KJV

A few weeks ago, our nation was shocked by the news of the mass murders that took place at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.

There first thing many asked was “Where was God?”

Our text verse leads into verses that tell us that God is everywhere. There is nowhere that the presence of God is not present. In Psalm 139:13, we see that God possesses our reins.

This shows us that God is in complete and total control of all his creation. The one who holds the reins is in control of the horse. Some like to soften the blow of things God does by saying he allowed it to happen. From the human standpoint, we could look through the Bible and say that God is cruel and unfair. God did many terrible things to judge his nation Israel. God also told Israel in many of their wars to destroy men, women, children, animals, etc.

Humanly speaking, we would say this is wrong.

In Romans 9:15-24, we see that we are the creation and who are we to challenge God for what He does? He was there there in Newtown, Conn.

Now, from my human side, I was heartbroken for the victims and their families. I, however, did not say, “Where was God?”

I know that He works all things after the counsel of his own will. Ephesians 1:11

I have often wondered why so many shootings take place in schools and colleges. I truly believe the reason is that God’s name (not god) has been removed from these places. The public school system said in the 1960s that God’s word was no longer to be read. Prayer was against the law. Evolution was taught as a fact and creation was taught as a theory, if it was taught at all.

We can now teach that gay marriage, abortion and premarital sex are OK.

Ungodly groups that fight against any mention of God would have had no problem with the teacher leading their students in prayer on that day.

Our government and the biased media want to remove God from public view. Many want one nation under God taken out of the pledge, in God we trust taken off our money and scriptures taken off federal buildings.

Our founding fathers meant for separation of church and state to keep government out of the church, not the church out of government.

We now have metal detectors and nurseries in our schools to protect against guns and to give teen mothers a government tax payer provided baby sitter. We can see that a nation who forgets God will be turned into hell.

The liberals will never remove God from society, but God can remove His hand of blessing and show us what a Godless nation can be.
