Russellville honors veterans

November 11, 2013

The city of Russellville and Main Street Russellville held its annual Veterans Day ceremony on Monday at the old train depot on Second Street and drew one of its biggest in years.

Nearly 50 veterans from Russellville and Logan County were in attendance and Logan County Judge Executive noted that having the ceremony at the old train depot was significant because that is the location where service men would leave and return home for the war during World War II.

Some in attendance had even left from the old depot when heading out to fight in WWII.

During the ceremony, Lt. Mathew Wright, a Fort Campbell soldier who will soon be leaving to go to Afghanistan spoke to the crowd and the names of every soldier killed during war was read by local elected leaders.
