How do folks. This was a standard greeting many years ago and still is in some areas. I just finished a book called Gap Creek, a fictional story located in Appalachia and this salutation was often used. I remember hearing this from my older family members. Someday it would be interesting to record some of these phrases used in days gone by and where they originated. But for now let’s get up-to-date on happenings in Auburn.

Glad to hear my buddy Jerry Rust’s surgery went well. He’s home and receiving therapy twice weekly. The doctor was pleased with his progress at the latest checkup.

Also, Main Street Style has a new stylist. April Price a Master Stylist in her own right will be joining Staci Hines, Sonya Case and April Humble. This is a full service salon and I’m sure Ms. Price. with her talents and experience, will be an asset to this establishment.

Did you get your flu shot yet? Auburn Senior Center was busy on Tuesday with a steady stream of people taking advantage of the flu shots provided by Rite Aide of Franklin.

Senior Center activities for next week include a Halloween Party on Thursday. Costumes are not mandatory, but would be fun. The Walk - With - Ease classes continue on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9 - 10 am. *Please note during this time if you are not participating, come and play games, work puzzles or just have coffee and enjoy the company.

Those who have been attending the free dance classes on Tuesday nights will have the opportunity to strut their stuff on Friday night Oct. 25. Great night of fun and fellowship. Music by “Old Habits” from the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s, plus country and line dancing. Come bring a dish for the pot luck and friends for dancing. The season is just right for soup, or chili, along with sandwiches, chips and drinks. Bring your favorite or a new recipe.

Doors open promptly at 5:30 p.m. and the cost will be $3 at the door.

Probably because they grew up in the that time period many of the seniors have shown much interest in the 1950’s theme Car Cruise-In tomorrow Saturday Oct.26, being held downtown on the square from 10am - 2pm.

Hourly door prizes will be awarded to lucky entries of Vintage Cars and Motorcycles. Raffle tickets will be sold for free Car Detailing and Main Drag.

Music from the 1950’s will be playing around the square including the hokey pokey and the bunny hop. Debbie Grise, “Queen of Hula Hoops”, will give demonstrations. Hula Hoop Championship will be awarded to the person who can keep the hoop up and going for the longest time.

Everyone is encouraged to dress in period outfits. Contest to be held for biggest bee hive hairdo and best men’s hair style, as well as, best dressed boy and girl, man and woman. See you there. Now if I could just find my saddle oxfords. No way I can still get into that poodle skirt.

And since I can’t move as fast as I once did, please use caution driving on Main Street.

Workers at Caldwell Gasket found themselves “up a creek” one day this week when a “hidden” sprinkler malfunctioned. They had to call in a “rescue squad” to drain the water out.

Children, this witch will be mounting her broom and flying south on All Hallows Eve and will not return until the Saints have marched in on All Saints Day. Have fun and be very careful. Don’t go through Sleepy Hollow, word is the headless horseman is on the loose. Parents, be aware Trick or Treat hours are 4-8 p.m.

Mark your calendar for Nov. 4. New Friendship Baptist Church is serving lunch as a fund raiser for their youth Haiti mission trip. Grilled pork chop sandwiches, chips and cookies will be offered. For 1 sandwich, chips and cookies, $5 and with 2 sandwiches the price is $8.
