Hello again from Adairville and it’s 67th Annual Strawberry Festival. One of the oldest continuous festivals in the commonwealth of Kentucky. It is here again and it is time to come out and enjoy this grand event. This years festival promises to be one of the best in many years. More music and entertainment, more food and vendors with items to sell and a lot more carnival rides.

Casey Rides is back this year with a record breaking assortment of rides. Some of the best in the country. They have been with us for nearly 60 years. Another carnival was with us last year but now the new and improved Casey Rides is back.

Casey Green started the carnival and rides more that 60 years ago and was here every year until his death, a few years ago. at about 90 years of age. Since that time his grandson JD Green and his wife have continued to build a bigger and better first class carnival.

A very nice young man named Levi Miller, from Eastern Kentucky, runs one of the top rides in America. It is the Tsunami and was built in Italy and is one of only four such rides in America. Walking down the midway last night I saw the Tsunami, Superman, Sizzler, Hurricane, Tilta Whirl, Farris Wheel and many more rides. There are so many in fact that they have had to put rides behind rides. There are also more rides for the younger kids so there is something for every one.

There is great entertainment all day today, tonight, tomorrow and tomorrow night. It does not let up. The continuation of the monthly corn hole tournament will be Saturday morning.. The re-enactment of the famous 1806 duel between Jackson & Dickinson is at 1 p.m. Saturday followed by the annual parade at two p.m. All are welcomed to participate in the parade. Line up at the Adairville School after 1 p.m.

If you have strawberries to sale please bring them. The crop is late this year and many people will want strawberries. The chamber’s strawberry shop will be open each day. The proceeds goes to help the chamber buy things for our town.

Be sure and bring folding chairs. Do not forget this important item. The old bleachers have worn out so chairs are necessary. I am loaning about 100 chairs but that will only satisfy a small number.

Nicki Riggins and his famous band is not going to be with us. They have promised to be here sometime this summer and put on a free concert that will be videoed by an internationally famous production company and shown world wide. Nicki now performs all over the world and recently returned from performing in Europe, Asia and Africa.

I recieved a nice email Wednesday evening from Linda Hatler, that many of you know. She wrote, “Last year was the 50th class reunion of the class of 1962,…we had brunch at Shoney’s in Springfield, then rode in the Strawberry Festival Parade. It was a wonderful time of sharing memories and returning to our beloved Adairville. Those who attended were Thomas Wayne Stinson, Faye Grayson Smith, Earl Grey, Joe W. Rouse, Mary G. Orndorff Horlander, Marion Goodwin, Randy Morgan, Dolores Ann Pitts Stratton, Joanne Perry Smith, Melba Cowan Allen, Carole Savage Rogers and Linda Gooch Hatler….(hoping the parade will continue for many years.)

When I was two years old, I rode on a float with Betty Jo Wilson, in the parade (her dad was Fred Wilson) who raised lots of strawberries in the neighborhood of Oakville. Thanks.” Linda Hatler

OTHER NEWS Mayor Donna Blake’s brother-in-law Mac MacKinzie died on Monday, in Atlanta, following a massive stroke. His wife is Shirley Russell MacKinzie of Adairville. Donna has driven back and forth so she can also be at the Strawberry Festival. Our regrets go out to Donna and her family.

Nannette Starks King was in the hospital much of last week following surgery. This week she has been on the town square, for a short time daily, guiding the activities of setting up the Strawberry Festival. She has been aided by Danny Finch who is the local chamber president this year. (Danny has taken the entire week off from work to help with the festival.) This is real team spirit! We need more dedicated workers like them!

Health Message -

If walking is good for your health, then the postman would be immortal….

A whale swims all day, only eats fish, drinks water but is still fat…

A rabbit runs and hops yet lives only 15 years, while .. A tortoise doesn’t run and does mostly nothing, yet lives for 150 years.

And you tell me to exercise?? I don’t think so!

TIME TO GO Good night first lady of the county, the mayors of Lewisburg, Auburn, Adairville and Spa, all the city council members and our state house and senate members, “Sweet Ms. Berdie Angel” , all the ministers and their spouses in Adairville, you and Mrs. Calabash where ever you are.
