Catherine (Shuttleworth) Wagenknecht, age 93, passed away on May 22, 2017 in Del Rio, Texas. She was born October 12, 1923 in Sutton Coldfield, England, and is preceded in death by her parents George Shuttleworth and Jane Ellizabeth (Twamley) Shuttleworth. She was one of nine children.

Catherine grew up in England and served in the Women’s Royal Air Force as an anti-aircraft gunner protecting England as well as our troops. It was there that she met and married her late husband Robert Cecil Wagenknecht in 1942. They had two sons Kenneth Lewis Wagenknecht born in England, now residing in Del Rio, TX and Robert Howard Wagenknecht born in Michigan and now residing in Lewisburg. Catherine was grandmother to Sharon (Wagenknecht) James (Tenn.), Robert Alan Wagenknecht (Mich.), and Scott, David, and James Wagenknecht (Texas). She also had seven great-grandchildren and nine great, great-grandchildren. Catherine was an especially close aunt to her sister Betsy’s children Lawrence, Melissa, and Teresa Jaskiewicz orignally from Durand, MI.

After coming to the US in 1945 she lived in Houghten Lake and Flint, Mich., Arcadia, FL, Mansfield, Tenn., Lewisburg and Del Rio, Texas. Besides being a loving wife and mother Catherine was a Boy Scout leader and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting,watching all wildlife and was an avid gardener and birdwatcher. Her work life included being a buying manager for Woolworth’s, a school bus driver and a nurses assistant.

Friends and family are invited to attend a Graveside Service being held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday November 21, 2017, at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, 1380 Forrest Nelson Blvd., Port Charlotte, Fla.
