The Panthers hosted the first round of the Class 1A playoffs on Friday night at Rhea Stadium. The Fort Knox Eagles flew into town with hopes of an upset. The Panthers went to work and never looked back. The home team won, 41-8, and will advance to round two.

The first quarter was slow for both teams, ending with no points on the board. The Panthers would quickly change that in the second frame. By halftime, Russellville had jumped out to a 15-0 lead. By the time the 4th quarter started, the Panthers were riding in cruise control with a 35-0 lead. They would get one more passing score in the last quarter to earn a running clock. The final was 41-8 after Fort Knox got a touchdown and successful two-point play late.

Javaren Robey went off for the Panthers. The Senior ran for 140 yards and three touchdowns. Edward Barber ran one ball in for a score.

Jacob Naylor threw for 138 yards in the win. Naylor connected with Edward Barber and Devin Quarles for touchdowns. Quarles caught two passes for 69 yards. Barber’s score came on a 49-yard pass from Naylor.

Friday, the Panthers hit the road to play the Campbellsville Eagles (5-6) for round two of the playoffs. Russellville beat them 57-7 last season.
