The 13th District basketball tournament is being held at Logan County High School this week. The four schools that make up the district all had a chance to fight for the championship crown. Logan County, Russellville, Todd County Central, and Franklin-Simpson each played their boys and girls teams starting on Monday.

Kicking off the tournament was the Lady Cougars hosting Franklin-Simpson on Monday. Both teams started slow. The Lady Cougars only managed nine points in the first eight minutes of the tournament. The score was 9-4 after one. Peyton Vanzant got hot in the second quarter, finding the net from the 3-point arc twice. She would hit two more bombs before the end of the game and finish with a team-high 21 points.

The Lady Cats scored six points in the second quarter, all coming from Freshman Alera Barbee. Going into the half, Logan held a slim 20-10 advantage.

Into the third, Franklin tried to fight back. Kate Norwood scored six out of the 13 for the Lady Cats in the quarter to climb within three points of the hosts.

The Lady Cougars finally got the shots to start falling as the Lady Cats wore down in the 4th quarter. Peyton Vanzant hit for ten points in the final frame. The final was 42-29 in favor of the Lady Cougars.

Behind Vanzant's performance, Kennedy Nichols scored nine. Paige Vanzant had six, while Blayke Bingham finished with four.

For Franklin, Kate Norwood had 12, Alera Barbee collected nine, and Christina Carver settled on four points.
