The 4th Region Basketball tournament is being held at Western Kentucky University this week. The Logan County Lady Cougars were there on Monday night to shine in front of the crowd at Diddle Arena for the first time in two years. Up first for the Lady Cougars was the Metcalfe County Lady Hornets.

Coach Finley Baird's ladies took the court and swapped points with the Lady Hornets in the first. Peyton Vanzant got hot early with two 3-pointers in the opening quarter. It was Metcalfe County taking an early 15-13 point lead into the second quarter.

The Vanzant twins, Paige and Peyton, helped the Lady Cougars score 20 points in the eight minutes before the half. Paige hit three from the paint and three while standing at the charity stripe. Peyton dropped another five before the buzzer. It was 33-29 going into the break.

The third quarter at Diddle belonged to Logan County. Peyton Vanzant kept up the excitement by hitting six shots, including a three and free throw. Halie Borders got aggressive and scored four. By the time the fourth quarter started, Logan had built a 55-41 lead over Metcalfe.

During the final eight minutes of the game, Kennedy Nichols played hard under the net and scored eight points. The Lady Cougars tacked on a total of 14 more to seal the deal. 69-57 was the final score, ending Metcalfe County's season at (10-17.)

Peyton Vanzant finished with 25 points in the win. Paige Vanzant had 17, while going seven for eight at the free throw line. After early foul trouble, Kennedy Nichols scored ten to help LC advance to the next round. Blayke Bingham had seven, Halie Borders scored six, and Addie White finished with four.

Logan County (22-10) will play Bowling Green (18-12) at Diddle Arena on Friday night at 6pm.
