Law Enforcement Memorial / National Police Week will begin on May 13 and continue through May 19, 2018.

On Wednesday, May 16, 2018, Kentucky State Police Post 3 Bowling Green will conduct fallen trooper memorial services in the eight county Post 3 area. Beginning at 8:30 a.m., Troopers and other local law enforcement officers will conduct wreath laying ceremonies for Troopers and Highway Patrolmen who died in the line of duty while serving the following counties: Warren, Barren, Edmonson, Hart, Allen, Simpson, Logan, and Butler.

Throughout the day, Troopers and officers will honor six fallen brothers who died while serving with the Kentucky State Police by participating in graveside services. Services are scheduled in Warren, Butler, Logan, Simpson, and Barren Counties in Kentucky, and one ceremony will be held in Woodbury, Tenn. This year will include the addition of two members of the Kentucky Highway Patrol who were shot and killed December 21, 1935.

Graveside wreath laying ceremonies will include the following Kentucky State Police Personnel who died while serving the Commonwealth in the Post 3 area:

Lieutenant William C. Smith (Bowling Green)

Detective Darrell V. Phelps (Quality/Morgantown)

Trooper Walter O. Thurtell (Adairville)

Trooper William H. Barrett (Woodbury, TN)

Patrolman James P. Hays (Cave City)

The men that we are honoring this week, who have given their lives in the Post 3 area in the greatest act of courage, have paid the ultimate sacrifice, in the name of "service above self."
